The film is about a group of passengers on a bus that find themselves abducted to Fun Land. Their captors will only allow two of them to leave and that's only if they can survive until morning.Mitchel Jones of Montpelier is directing the film. He also wrote the screenplay. Jones said "Fun Land" been a whirlwind."

I had a buddy that want to film a short (film) and asked me if I had anything he could do," said Jones. "I had a little paragraph in a notebook written down that he liked, so we filmed the short."The short film was taken to Cinema Wasteland, a horror convention in October. The short got a lot of interest from individuals there."There was a lot of interest from the trailer," said producer Dallas McFarland of Edgerton."We started looking for investors to make this a feature length," said Jones. "It'll be six months from (completed) script to screen. It's pretty ambitious."The film is being shot at three Michigan locations -- Elliot Amusements in Mason, Homer Mill in Homer and Darksyde acres in Jonesville.Jones hopes the film will be released in the early summer.

Indie Flicks will be distributing the movie, though three other production companies have asked to screen the film after it's finished."Due to the high profile names of the production company involved we aren't allowed to release the names of the companies as of yet," said DeAndra McFarland, associate producer. " This is due in part to competition between the companies."

"Fun Land" has also increased interest in Jones and Dallas McFarland's company, Chasing Autumn Films. This is the first feature length film for the company."We already have people interested in financing the next movie," said Dallas McFarland."This won't be our last film," Jones stressed.

FX coordinator Rob Johnson of Body Bag Entertainment is doing special affects for the "Fun Land.""We're going all out for this one," he said. "We want people to say 'Oh my God, that can't be real' instead of people saying 'that has to be fake.' "Johnson said that the Michigan weather has presented some special effects challenges with it being cold, then hot and windy. He said they are working around the weather for the special effects.

Some of the actors that will be using Johnson's special affects are James Cendrowski and Matt Good, both of Bryan."They were calling for two random nerdy guys," joked Cendrowski. "They saw us and said 'they're perfect!' ""It pays not to be normal," Good added.Cendrowski heard about the audition while he was grocery shopping at the Chief's in Bryan."I was out of work and saw a poster for auditions," he said.Good decided to audition with his friend to auditions in Pioneer. He said when both of them were told the had the parts they were excited."We were like 'let's do this,' " Good said.

Good and Cendrowski said the one scene they are looking forward to filming is one where their two characters get chained together.Actor Jason Krotky of Columbus said he's really looking forward to how his character changes psychologically."I end up killing his character," he said gesturing at Good. He said he heard about the auditions via the Internet. He's been in other films before such as "Skin Deep."All three actors said they can't wait to see the finished film. Neither can some of the people they've told about the production."A lot of my buddies are like 'I can't wait to see you get killed,' " Cendrowski said."A lot of the buys at work ask me when it will come out," Good said.

Also acting in the film are Savannah Mapes and Troy Hapker, both of Montpelier.Mapes and Jones went to high school together and when Mapes heard of the film asked if she could have a small part. He agreed."I really didn't know what to expect," she said of filming. "I've never been in a movie before. I was only on set for one day. I was just happy to be involved."Hapker is also a friend of Jones, and heard about the film through him."He said 'I have a part you would be perfect for why don't you try out?' So I did," said Hapker. After reading the script, Hapker said he was excited."It's kind of like 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' meets 'Saw' with an amusement park and clowns," he said. While "Fun Land" was the first movie Hapker was in, he will be in another upcoming film called "2012: The Devil's Apocalypse."Being on the set of "Fun Land," was an experience Hapker said."It was pretty crazy all the stuff you had to go through just to get a shot right. It was pretty interesting to watch," he saidBoth Mapes and Hapker said they are looking forward to when the film comes out."I hope it's going to be a success," Mapes said.

"I get killed with a lead pipe."

"I get killed with an ax."

"See that's cool."

This isn't a typical conversation most people hear, but this is the first day of principal photography on the set of "Fun Land," an independent horror film."Fun Land" is being made by Chasing Autumn Films, and its director, producer and several cast members are from northwest Ohio. Principal filming began April 27.
